The Jade Room no longer to be a sanctuary from the mainstream?

Ugh.

So I thought it would be worth posting here that there is discussion going on about our beloved Jade Room on South Grand, that MeKong's management is wanting to drop the indie/alternative-friendly atmosphere and music, and that weekends will soon be filled with Top 40 music and videos, in what would assume is a ploy to draw in more of the annoying drunken idiot yuppies that frequently plague the Blue Room. Once again, another establishment is turning its back (much to the protest of its employees) on the patrons who have supported it for so many years.

Is it so much to ask that we have a few places where we can escape from being force-fed bubblegum pop and head-splitting hip hop? If this goes through, you can be sure that I will be one who will protest. It looks like places such as The Trade and Mangia will be getting more of my business. Love the people who work there, but I think this is a big mistake.

Wow who's decision was this? Was it Tu or Mr. Tran?

Whenever I went in there they were playing Marilyn Manson, NIN or some other terrible 90s music. And really loud, too. The only good thing about that place is that it's slightly less smoky and crowded than Mangia but open equally late.
