THE CIRCUIT by LO-FI SAINT LOUIS

Wanna write for Highway 61? I'm not sure how many people I've asked by now, but the probable answer is familiar. And since most of my friends don't really even check out our pet project of the last 6 months (I've probably lost a few IN THE PROCESS), I shouldn;'t be surprised.
Things have gotten a little lonely on ye olde blog. First a promised contributer has yet to produce a single post. Second, we lost a real journalist when she went back to school. The final straw: a professional (journalist that is) I have grown to know as a person as a result of this blog, has found *gasp* the kind of work he wants most. And I couldn't be happier for them, their doing what they need.

No, I can't pay you for your work. But what I can give you is an audience. That took a lot of work to build over the summer, and without frequent posts we'll lose an audience. But we still have people who check back for updates nearly every day, and more than I can keep track of via RSS. In fact, last month was our second greatest site views since we started in May, despite a relative lull in posts. Building an audience and a netowrk of good people around you isn't easy, and takes a bunch of work - that can be yours if you're interested in helping.

It needn't even be original work - as an example I like to post infrequent photos from my FlickR as a post sometimes. It's also fun to reconstitue whole photo essays into a flash slideshow, or original video into a post of its own. Also, wiriting is kind of easy. It's the hyperlinking that can drive my writing (and readers) towards the site.

This is your chance to write about something in town you think might be nothing. A film review. A concert picture. An event that needs attention. A review of the cool restaurant you just found. A facebook group people might like to join. And to write about an underepresented scene in saint louis, for us youngins. Without the pain of manufacturing some zine. Except we think zines are still cool. Maybe a doddle of your dog taking a shit on the post dispatch. That's mature.

If this sounds like a good opportunity to you, please send an email to hwy61revised@gmail.com and we'll fill you in on the rest.

Highway 61 is always seeking new contributors. But since this message was first created, Highway 61 has taken aboard a few new contributors. In addition to founding editors and regular contributors Matthew Hurst and Lauren Reid, our online magazine now offers the insight and contributions of Chris Maue, Amy Butz, and Philip Diehl.

If you think you'd like to be part of our team, feel free to send us a message at hwy61revised@gmail.com . We're always looking for new contributors in Saint Louis' only independant magazine written by students for students.
